What we don’t need in the midst of struggle is shame for being human.” Brené Brown

About Jaclyn

Founder, MSW, RSW

Counselling in Vancouver, BC

When I reflect on all the stories I’ve been entrusted to hold over the years, I am always amazed by the profound resilience of the human spirit. I deeply value the wisdom and lived experience my clients bring to our counselling sessions and strive to create a space where you feel safe, seen, heard and supported, exactly as you are.

I understand that reaching out for help can feel incredibly vulnerable. There is no one-size-fits-all path to healing, so I draw on a range of therapeutic frameworks to guide our work together. These include somatic psychotherapy, attachment theory, trauma-informed practice, emotion-focused family therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy.

While these theories guide my work, it’s the compassionate, collaborative, and non-judgmental relationship we build together in therapy that I believe makes the most meaningful difference. Whatever you’re navigating, I’m here to walk alongside you with care and curiosity as we explore what healing looks like for you. I look forward to meeting you in-person or online!

Our Counselling Methods

Somatic Therapy focuses on the connection between mind and body. Viva Counselling uses this body-centered approach to help regulate your nervous system, release stored stress, and restore a sense of calm and safety.

Somatic Therapy

CBT helps you identify and shift negative thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress. This counselling therapy supports practical skill-building, emotional regulation, and better mental health in your daily life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

DBT teaches you practical skills in mindfulness, coping with distress, regulating emotions, and communicating effectively, with the goal of creating greater emotional stability and healthier ways of responding to challenges.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Rooted in self-awareness and authenticity, this approach helps you reconnect with your inner self, explore your feelings, and develop a deeper understanding of your thoughts and behaviours.

Gestalt & Humanistic Therapy

EFFT is a collaborative, emotion-centered approach that helps you build stronger emotional bonds, improve communication, and create a more supportive, resilient family system.

Emotion-Focused Family Therapy

Emphasizing safety, trust, and empowerment in all interactions, trauma-informed care focuses on understanding how past experiences shape a person’s responses. Viva prioritizes compassion, collaboration, and choice to avoid re-traumatization and support healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The intake process is simple! It’s designed to help us determine whether we’re a good fit to work together. We begin with a complimentary phone consultation where you can get a sense of who I am and how I work, and I can learn more about what you’re looking for from your counselling experience. I’m also happy to answer any questions you have before or during the call. If after speaking we both feel that working together would be a good fit, we can book your first session at the end of the consultation.

  • Online counselling is very similar to in-person counselling. The main difference is that we meet virtually, from the comfort of your own home or private office space. To get started, simply click ‘book now’ to book your first session. Once your account is set up, you’ll be able to easily schedule appointments and pay for your video sessions online.

There’s no need to download any software. All you need is an up-to-date web browser (Chrome tends to work best) and a reliable internet connection. While the experience can feel a little different from meeting in person, many clients find online counselling to be highly convenient and are able to make meaningful progress toward their goals.

  • 50 minute individual sessions are $185 (taxes included) and 50 minute couples and family sessions are $210. Video sessions are similar to in-person appointments, where we meet for the 50 minute session. Your therapist then spends additional time planning your treatment and keeping progress notes outside of your session time.

  • We use software that takes care of most of the booking and payment details. When you register as a client, you’ll be asked to enter a credit card to book your first session. After each session, your payment will be processed automatically, and a receipt will be emailed to you so that you can submit to any extended benefit plan (if you have that option). All payment information is kept for you in your online account (which you can access from our website).

  • We do not take care of direct billing, however most extended health benefit plans cover counselling. Following each session you will be provided with an official receipt which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. We recommend checking with your provider directly to understand your coverage before booking.

  • It’s so confusing! There are different terms for professionals who offer counselling. These terms are based on the province the therapist lives in as well as their education. Social workers and clinical counsellors both hold masters degrees which set them up to be excellent counsellors! Depending on the province, different titles are used. For example, in BC we use “Registered Clinical Counsellor” or “Registered Social Worker” and in Ontario, they use “Registered Psychotherapist” and “Registered Social Worker.” If you have extended benefits, make sure to check which title they offer coverage for. As always, ask Viva Counselling for help if you get confused!

  • This really depends on what challenges you’d like support with. Some clients will come for just a few sessions, whereas others are looking for longer support. Your counsellor will discuss the timeline with you once you get started. We also know that finances play a major role in how much support a person can access, so don’t hesitate to share any limitations with your counsellor.

  • Yes, you have the right to end therapy at any time. If you're not comfortable or satisfied with your therapist, that’s totally okay! We know how important it is to find a great fit. We can help you find another therapist who is a better fit, so just reach out and let us know.

  • Session frequency all depends on you, what we’re working on, and your financial situation. Session frequency is variable, so don’t worry about feeling locked into a contract. You’re free to reduce or increase frequency at your discretion!

  • I love this question! I started Viva Counselling because I am inspired by people’s resilience. Everyone has a story to tell and sometimes, friends and family are not the most appropriate audience for certain chapters of your life. I want to offer you a space to be able to give voice to what might be holding you back, or causing pain.

I want our society to overcome shame and stigma around mental health, grief/loss, and the perinatal journey. These issues are present for so many of us in our communities, and they stop our stories from being told, which ends in unnecessary suffering and pain. Counselling helps with these issues, tremendously.

I enjoy taking the information that I have learned in my Master’s degree and various trainings, and sharing it with my clients. This helps to normalize certain issues and for many, relieves a sense of feeling broken or ruined.

My mission is to help you build confidence, connection and community.

YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT THERAPY, ANSWERED

Working with Jaclyn has been one of the best investments I’ve made for myself. She has been there for me during the lowest points in my life, always showing up with compassion and genuine care. I remember coming into sessions feeling completely lost and unsure how to move forward, and somehow leaving with a sense of clarity and purpose I didn’t know was possible.
